Ratae RC has welcomed many regular triathletes on our series of timetrials but now one of our members, Mark Newton, has added to the range of cycling disciplines taken up by Ratae members. Read Mark's following account of his recent participation in the Blithfield Triathlon based near Cannock Chase:
"This was my second triathlon at the Olympic distance. Sylvia and I arrived early to set up my gear in transition in good time for the 8.08am gun. Weather was good, mild, dry and a very light wind.
The first swim element was a challenge, advertised at 1500m the actual distance was nearer 2100m, well in excess of what I had trained for and the extra 600m was a hotly debated discussion point post event by the other triathletes!
The next discipline, a 40km ride, was on a nice rolling course that went well with no dramas. (JF-Just what we'd expect from a Ratae member!)
The final element, the 10km run, was an off road course with some tracks, across the reservoir dam wall, nice and flat and was simply a matter of getting through it as energy levels were well depleted by then.
I did enjoy it and finished with a smile with a time of 3 hours 3 minutes, 99th overall in a field of 165 entrants. And, a big thank you to Sylvia for the event support and the accompanying photos.
If any member fancies trying or training for triathlon please feel free to get in touch for a chat and some advice."
